Rendang Is the Best Food in the World

Rendang is one of the traditional foods originating from the Minang. Rendang meat that comes from the West Sumatera was crowned as the world's finest food version of CNN (Central News Network).

It is based on a survey of observer news station CNN, loaded on the website CNNGo. The survey was compiled through the account CNN on the social networking site Facebook.

The popularity of rendang followed by fried rice in second rank and Sushi from Japan in the third rank. The previous survey, ranked first in the world's finest foods is Massaman curry from Thailand.

The survey results are published in the pages of CNN's site that alerts 50 finest food in this world make rendang as the winner. "After the capture of more than 35,000 votes, the most delicious food in the world is not the Massaman curry, which we recommend, but the spicy marinated meat dishes from West Sumatra," CNN'S survey results.

Rendang is a traditional food that savoury coconut-based with beef as the main ingredient. Marinade of rendang made from coconut milk and a mixture of various ingredients in the blend, such as Chili, Lemongrass, galangal, turmeric, ginger, garlic, and shallots, as well as a variety of other condiments are usually called pemasak.

Natural spices of rendang are antiseptic and kill pathogenic bacteria, so it is a natural preservative. No wonder, rendang can be stored in a long period of time.

The process of cooking rendang takes a long time, (usually 4 hours). In Minangkabau tradition, rendang is mandatory dish in every special occasion, such as traditional ceremonies in Minangkabau and welcomes the guest of honor.

If in Malay tradition, (Riau, Jambi, Medan, or the Malay Peninsula), rendang is a dish served in the special kenduri circumcision, birthdays, weddings, or religious events such as Eid ul-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.



The recipes of the Original Beef Rendang

Ingredients:
1.      1½ pounds ground beef
2.      12 cups coconut milk of 3 grains coconuts
3.      2 seed sour kandis
4.      1 stalk Lemongrass, bashed
5.      1 sheet of turmeric leaf
6.      2 pieces of lime leaves
7.      Salt to taste

The seasoning paste:
1.      1 oz of red chili
2.      15 pieces of onion
3.      6 cloves of garlic
4.      5 pieces of pecan
5.      2 cm of ginger
6.      3 cm of galangal (this does not need to be crushed, ground only)

How to make beef rendang:
1.      Cut meat to taste.
2.      Boil the coconut milk with spices and mashed the leaves and sour kandis in a pan.
3.      Stir constantly until it thickens so the coconut milk is not break. If coconut oil is already out, insert a piece of meat.
4.      Stirring constantly, and cook over medium heat.


Tips in Making Beef Rendang:

Additional recipes for meat more tasty beef rendang: 
  1. 1 kg of meat requires 3 grains of coconut made into thick coconut milk. So if a meat preferably 5 grains of 1.5 kg. Then add 3 pieces of bay leaf, 2 stalks Lemongrass, lime leaves and 4 sheets.
  2. Add 2 tbsp roasted shredded coconut that's been beaten fine (until out of oil). 
  3. Add a little sugar, if you like. 
  4. To make marinade of beef rendang feels more again, add garlic, chilies and onion.  
  5. So that the seasonings permeated, preferably boiled meat with all the herbs and leaves, after water dried, insert coconut meat, stirring constantly until boiling. Reduce heat, Cook until the oily (black) and stirred in a while so its not to viscid and cooked evenly.
